acrylic on canvas, 3’ x 4’, 2019

My work involves a walking meditation as represented in the landscape. I find a sense of peace, calm and quiet when I walk through the woods. I am comfortable in the woods because in my childhood I spent time in the woods playing with my siblings. These characteristics of my walks lead to a meditative state in which I generate ideas, and make plans, and resolve problems. These scenes are painted in a monochromatic palette to activate memories of playing in the woods with my siblings during childhood. The past is tied to my present daily walks in the woods, creating a sense of place that allows for a comfort level conducive to the meditative walk.

The woods provide peace, magic, adventure. Walking through the woods is meditative, a place where problems are worked out and ideas formed, finding balance through the meditative walk over the seasons of life.  My paintings serve as visual evidence of the meditative walk. The scenes are painted in a monochromatic palette to activate memories of childhood spent playing in the woods with my siblings. The past is tied to the present providing for the sense of place that allows the meditative walk to happen.
